Lindy L. Sweeney
Judge Sweeney has been a Magisterial Judge since 2018 serving eight municipalities in Southern York County (Boroughs of Glen Rock, Jacobus, Loganville, New Freedom, Railroad and Shrewsbury and the Townships of Springfield and Shrewsbury.) Her past legal career spans almost 40 years, 37 spent as a Senior Litigation Paralegal for a private law firm as a member of a two person civil defense trial team handling cases throughout the Commonwealth in both the state and federal court systems. She was a founding member of the York County Paralegal Association, achieved PA Certified Paralegal status, and was a member of the Appeals Credentialing Committee for the Keystone Paralegal Association. Concurrent with many of the years of her legal career, she also was the Vice President and Treasurer for a her family owned tool and die company. Judge Sweeney is a lifelong resident of her community where she has been active (since her teenage years) in community service organizations. Activities included the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, a zoning hearing board, Southern Regional Recreation Board and a hospice volunteer. In addition to facilitating bereavement support groups, she also served as her law firm’s liaison providing legal services for indigent hospice patients. Currently Judge Sweeney is a member of the Rotary Club of Southern York County, the New Freedom Lions Club, and New Freedom Heritage. She is a member of SCJAP Ethics and Professionalism Committee and the Education Committee and also a member of the York County Bar Association. Judge Sweeney gives an annual presentation to 5th graders in the SYCSD entitled “Judge in the Class Room.” Due to the pandemic, in 2020, she prepared a video for use in the school’s digital academy which can be viewed on the website: www.districtcourt19304.com She also spearheads an annual Community Education/Awareness event (past topics included the Opioid Epidemic and Human Trafficking) and an annual Human Rights Day event (past topics included Innocent in the Me Too Era, Civil Discourse, and Homelessness in York County.) Judge Sweeney and her husband Steve are avid golfers and her son Josh is a Class A PGA Golf Professional.
